In our prospective study we compare lipids levels and tendon healing after rotator cuff surgery.
Our cohort includes 72 patients with symptomatic rotator cuff tear. Each patient was treated by arthroscopic double row technique with anchors /suture bridge technique/ and after 6 weeks of treatment with orthosis every patient underwent the same rehab protocol.
After 12 months post-surgical treatment we examined all 72 patients by MRI . The primary endpoint of our study was the tendon healing and correlation with blood lipids levels after 3, 6 and 12 months.
Results: Patients with levels of blood cholesterol over 6.5mmol/l had 2.7 times higher risk of rerupture than patients with normocholesterolaemia. Patients with level of cholesterol between 4.5 to 6.5 mol/L had 1.9 times higher risk of rerupture.
It seems, that level of blood cholesterol over 4.5mmol/l is independent risk factor of non healing after surgical treatment of rotator cuff ruptures.
Triglycerids did not correlate with tendon healing in our study.
